Welcome You
To
Boulder Creek Community Church
After 22 years away from Santa Cruz County, we are thrilled to be back!
I was born in Boulder Colorado and moved to San Jose in 1973 when my dad was transferred with IBM. I discovered at a young age that I was fast… and could kick, throw or shoot a ball pretty well. So sports became my identity until I was 20 years old.
I struggled in school, was deeply shy and wrestled with loneliness. Sports turned out to be cruel master… But…
On January 1, 1986 I was saved. Saved from my sins…saved from a life of self-destruction… saved from a life of meaninglessness…. Saved for a life of purpose, hope and joy!
On January 1, 1992 I met Jennifer Lynn Babb, the most beautiful woman in the world! We were married 13 months later on January 30, 1993.
I thought I was going to be a missionary when I first entered Bible College. I had the good fortune to go on many short-term mission trips in my single days and after my 2nd date with Jennifer, I asked her if she was willing to move to Africa to be a missionary (thinking, what’s the point of a 3rd date if she’s not?).
2 ½ years later in 1995, we had our 1st child (Kodiak) at Dominican in Santa Cruz while working as a youth pastor at Santa Cruz Bible Church. 10 months later we were on a plane to Swaziland, Southern Africa (now Iswatini) for a 27-month “short-term” mission to work with youth.
In 1997 while in Iswatini, we had our 2nd child (Keana). Who is now married and will be giving us our 1st grandchild in July 2020. She married my worship leader (Maranatha Bo-Ung) and I couldn't be more blessed to have him as a son-in-law.
The Bible says, “A man plans his ways, but the LORD directs his steps” (Proverbs 16:9). My life and ministry career have been a crazy journey that has included 22 moves, 5 cities and 2 countries! It’s been a hard road… but one that has deepened my trust in a sovereign God who works all things together for my good and His glory!
In 2002 while living in Ventura, CA. we had our 3rd child (Kaleb) who will be entering his senior year at Scotts Valley High School.
Jenn and I always wanted to adopt and we had that privilege in 2004 when God brought us a precious little package we named (Keira). And then again in 2007 when God blessed us with her ½ brother (Johnny). When we were married, I wanted two kids… Jenn wanted 5. She won. And I’m so glad!
We are looking forward to our journey with Boulder Creek Community Church. It was a start like no other! My 1st 12 sermons were preached to my iPhone J.
But even so, I have found this little church to be so loving and welcoming. I’m looking forward to seeing what God does in us, as we are rooted and established in His love, how God uses us together to share that love to our community in a time when the world desperately needs what we have!
